In the Fall of 2018,HERO started an eight week adapted tennis program for veterans. It went so

well that we plan to continue in 2019. HERO will provide 3 eight week programs, May-October,

at Anthony F. Veteran Park, in Greenburgh. These wounded warriors are living with traumatic

brain injury and other forms of trauma. Our mission is to give them access to “fun, fitness and

positive social experiences”, using tennis games, drills and competitive activities.

If you want to volunteer, please call or e-mail Janet Lefkowitz at 914-261-6761 or HERO

JL1@A0L.COM. If you want to donate, please make your check payable to HERO, Inc.

(PO Box 58H, Scarsdale, NY 10583) or use our Pay Pal account.

We hope you can join our effort. You will find it to be very gratifying and enjoyable!

In 2018, HERO will be serving 448 pre-schoolers at 7 HEAD START Centers in Westchester County. They are the Lois Bronz Center (Greenburgh), Mt. Vernon, Port Chester, Mamaroneck, St. Peters (Yonkers), Andrus (Tuckahoe) and Yonkers Children's Place. Many of these tots are at-risk and some are developmentally delayed or disabled.

HERO's goals are:

  1. Enhanced listening skills
  2. ability to follow directions
  3. cooperation with peers
  4. abiding by the rules
  5. improved language skills
  6. recognizing shapes, sizes, colors and textures
  7. gaining knowledge of basic tennis skills

and most of all, having lots of fun!

Because HEAD START is grossly underfunded, HERO will not only organize and run each program, but also raise funds for all the sites. We would be grateful for any support you can provide.
